Tooth Colored Dental Bonding Procedure for Teeth Repair

Dental Bonding San Dimas, CA

Dental bonding is a procedure that restores the look and shape of a damaged tooth and protects it from future damage. As we stated, one of the key features of this procedure is that it can match the natural color of your teeth so that you don't have to worry about crowns or bridgework making your mouth and smile awkwardly.

The great thing about bonding is that it isn't just used to place a "cap "on a broken tooth. Bonding can be used to repair all types of tooth damage and have your tooth looking as good as new without a whole lot of worry. If you're interested in bonding to save a tooth that's damaged, then it's important to know how the procedure works and to talk to your dentist about whether bonding is an option for you.

We'll detail the bonding procedure and how and why it can match the color of your teeth.

How bonding works

Dental bonding is a much different procedure than that of getting a crown or having a tooth extracted, so you'll probably want to know exactly how it works before you make your decision.

Bonding is the process of reshaping a chipped, cracked, or broken tooth back to its natural shape and color while forming a protective barrier to prevent further damage to the tooth. The actual bonding is done by a composite resin material that matches the patient's tooth color. Once the procedure is complete, it looks just like the original tooth without worrying about odd colors or oversized crowns.

The start of the procedure

The process begins with a dental examination of your tooth and the surrounding area. The dentist must make sure the area is clean and that the tooth can handle the procedure before beginning. To apply the composite resin to the tooth, the surface must first be sanded for the resin to have something to grip to.

Applying the resin

Once the initial stage is complete, the dentist will apply the resin to the tooth and begin shaping it to match the natural shape and contour of the tooth. The dentist will use the resin to fill in the damaged areas and make the tooth look as natural as possible. Since the resin is tooth-colored, once this part of the dental bonding process is complete, the tooth should look completely natural.

The finishing process

After the resin has been sculpted, the dentist will harden it using a special UV light. Once this part of the process is complete, the patient is free to go about eating and drinking the way they would before their tooth was damaged, only with the added benefit of the resin acting as a protective barrier to prevent further damage to the tooth.
